A Grand Escape in Tokyo: Grand Hyatt Tokyo Review

The Grand Hyatt Tokyo is a massive hotel that offers a peaceful retreat from the bustling city. While the location isn’t the most convenient for exploring all of Tokyo’s attractions, it’s hard to argue with the value if you can snag a suite upgrade and enjoy the perks of the lounge. And you absolutely can’t miss the luxurious massage chairs in the fitness center locker rooms!

Luxurious Accommodations and Unexpected Perks

The hotel truly lives up to its “Grand” moniker, boasting a vast footprint and a diverse selection of restaurants. We didn’t get a chance to sample all of the culinary delights, but the lounge was a pleasant surprise. The breakfast was decent, and the evening happy hour spread provided enough to enjoy as a light dinner. While the location might not be my first choice for exploring Tokyo, we loved our spacious suite (thanks to a suite upgrade!) and the relaxing atmosphere.

It was a bummer to discover the high-end Japanese massage chairs in the men’s locker room only on our last night. Oh, how I wish I had known about them sooner! I would have spent more evenings indulging in those relaxing massages.

Making the Most of Points and Upgrades

I chose this hotel because the Grand Executive Suite, a “standard” suite at the Grand Hyatt Tokyo, was available for a cash booking. This spacious suite, accommodating up to four guests, was a steal at the time. I first booked a standard room for two guests and then contacted Hyatt to apply a suite upgrade award, which I had earned after reaching a certain elite status milestone. This allowed me to upgrade our room and accommodate the whole family!

This upgrade saved us a considerable amount of money. The suite would have cost over $1,500 per night during our stay, making this a fantastic value using points and the upgrade award.

Location, Location, Location: Finding the Right Balance

While the hotel is not in the heart of the action, it’s still relatively easy to get around using public transportation. We were typically 20-45 minutes away from the most popular tourist destinations. The hotel is nestled within a large shopping complex, which wasn’t immediately apparent to me. While the hotel boasts a convenient location near public transit, the immediate area lacks the hustle and bustle of some of Tokyo’s more vibrant districts.

Luxurious Amenities for Every Guest

Our Diplomat Suite was a delight, offering ample space and luxurious furnishings. The bed was firmer than I prefer, but it was still better than many hotels I’ve stayed at in Japan. The suite was well-appointed, and we appreciated the thoughtful amenities.

The hotel also has a spa, pool, and fitness center, but we didn’t have time to indulge in everything. The fitness center, however, is worth a visit, even if you’re not a gym enthusiast. The locker rooms feature high-end Japanese massage chairs, which are a must-try!

Hyatt Globalist Perks: Elevate Your Stay

As a Hyatt Globalist member, I enjoyed several exclusive benefits that enhanced our experience. These included a suite upgrade, access to the club lounge, and a late checkout.

The club lounge offered a decent breakfast and evening hors d’oeuvres. While the options were a bit repetitive after a few days, they were still satisfying. My wife especially enjoyed the delicious chardonnay served during the evening.

A Memorable Experience with a Few Quirks

The only minor hiccup was that the late checkout benefit was limited to 1 pm if we wanted to keep our upgraded suite. I was told that if we wanted the 4 pm late checkout benefit, we’d need to revert to a standard room. While this wasn’t a major issue, it’s something to consider if late checkout is essential to your plans.

Despite this minor detail, we had a wonderful time at the Grand Hyatt Tokyo. The hotel’s service was exceptional, and we felt truly pampered throughout our stay. The spacious suite, the relaxing atmosphere, and the exceptional amenities made for a memorable and comfortable getaway in the heart of Tokyo.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I would definitely consider staying at the Grand Hyatt Tokyo again, especially if I could secure a suite upgrade and enjoy the club lounge. However, if I’m staying in a standard room without lounge access, I might prefer a more central location.

The Grand Hyatt Tokyo offers a luxurious escape from the hustle and bustle of Tokyo, and it’s a great choice if you’re looking for a comfortable and well-appointed hotel. Just be aware that the location might not be ideal for those seeking to be in the heart of the action.
