A Sanctuary of Luxury and Sustainability

Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo is not just a place to escape and indulge in luxury. We’re committed to building a better tomorrow by harmonizing nature, embracing inclusivity, and fostering a sustainable future. Our journey towards a greener world is deeply ingrained in our history and reflects our dedication to creating a positive impact.

A Legacy of Renewal

Our story began in 1878 when former Prime Minister Aritomo Yamagata created a magnificent garden, named “Chinzanso.” Sadly, the garden suffered significant damage during the air raids of 1945. But the spirit of Chinzanso persevered. In 1952, we planted over 10,000 trees to create a serene oasis in a city scarred by war. This year, we celebrated our 70th anniversary as a garden restaurant, showcasing our unwavering commitment to nature.

Choosing Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo is not just about luxury; it’s about choosing to be a part of a movement for a more sustainable future.

Sustainability in Every Detail

We’ve taken tangible steps to reduce our environmental footprint. We’ve minimized the use of plastic straws, amenity containers, and disposable cutlery, opting for recyclable glass and paper. We’ve even introduced label-free PET bottles, making it easier to recycle. In Japan, 88.5% of PET bottles are recycled, compared to 18% in North America. This impressive rate is possible because of stricter recycling guidelines requiring consumers to separate the bottle from the cap and label. By eliminating the plastic film on our bottles, we’ve made recycling even simpler!

We also offer an eco-friendly room cleaning service for guests staying multiple nights. We change bed linens every third day and provide bath towels only upon request, conserving water and electricity.

Fighting Food Waste

We believe in reducing food waste, a crucial step in achieving sustainable consumption. Inspired by the “30/10 Movement” in Nagano, we encourage guests to savor their meals and finish everything on their plates. This commitment is proudly displayed in our banquet halls.

Beyond Our Walls

Our sustainability efforts extend beyond our hotel walls. We are proud partners of the Red Carpet Project, selling camellia tea made from camellias grown in the Kesen district of Iwate Prefecture. A portion of the revenue goes towards planting more camellia trees in the region, restoring the environment and creating employment opportunities.

We also offer a carbon emissions offset program, allowing guests to contribute to global environmental goals. Guests can choose to offset up to 15 kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions per night for a small fee. The program uses the certified J-Credit scheme, ensuring your contributions are making a real difference.
