Are you a journalist planning to feature Tokyo as your next travel story? The Tokyo Convention & Visitors Bureau (TCVB) can provide support services to help you create compelling content about this vibrant city.

We offer assistance to overseas media looking to showcase Tokyo in printed articles, TV/radio programs, online content, or videos. Our goal is to promote tourism and introduce the world to the beauty and excitement Tokyo has to offer.

Eligibility and Application

To apply for our media support program, please review our terms and conditions carefully. Agreement is mandatory when submitting your application.

After careful evaluation, TCVB will inform you whether your application has been approved. If successful, we will provide you with various support services.

What We Offer

Important Note: All services are limited to the Tokyo area (except for airport pickup). The specific support we offer may vary depending on your project’s content and potential reach.

Here’s a breakdown of our support services:

  • Accommodation: We may provide up to three nights of accommodation for a maximum of three professional journalists. The accommodation will be of two-three star equivalent quality.
  • Transportation: We can offer a Tokyo 1-Day Ticket for transportation on the metro, buses in Tokyo’s central 23 wards, and JR lines.
  • Airport Pickup: We can arrange pickup services to and from Haneda or Narita Airport.
  • Guide/Coordinator: We can provide a guide or coordinator for up to three days and up to eight hours per day.

Please Note:

  • We do not provide payment for accommodation if you book it yourself in advance using a credit card.
  • The IC-card offering for transportation is currently suspended due to the suspension of sales of personalized IC-cards.
  • We do not offer the Japan Railway Pass.
  • Guides cannot make arrangements or negotiate permission for filming/photography.
  • Coordinators will help coordinate and make arrangements for filming/photography at various tourist attractions and venues.

Before Applying

Before applying for our support program, ensure you have an assignment letter or verification from your media company. This is especially important for freelance journalists.

Application Requirements

When applying, please ensure the following:

  • Content Focus: Your planned article or program must focus on tourism promotion in Tokyo.
  • Timeline: Submit your application no later than four weeks prior to your arrival in Tokyo and no later than February 28, 2025.
  • Coverage Deadline: All filming/photography and interviews must be completed by March 31, 2025. Our support services are valid until March 31, 2025.
  • Publication/Broadcasting Dates: Set specific dates for the publication/broadcasting/posting of your content in advance. These should be within six months of your coverage period.
  • Itinerary: You must share your planned itinerary with the TCVB media support team.
  • Group Size: Please inform us of the total number of people in your group.
  • Permissions: Obtain the necessary permissions for filming/photography at the sites you visit, and ensure you do not disturb others.
  • Cancellation Fee: If you cancel our arrangements without a valid reason, you may be required to pay a cancellation fee. We may also cease supporting your coverage.

Post-Coverage Responsibilities

After completing your coverage, please submit the following information within one week:

  • Feedback: Provide feedback on your experience.
  • Photos: Share photos of the visited places, including your own image (selfie) at the locations. Please grant us permission to use these for reports, case studies, and promotional purposes.
  • Final Product: Send the final product data, including an English summary, to the Tokyo Convention & Visitors Bureau immediately after publication or broadcasting.

Please note: Failure to provide the requested product data, photos, and questionnaire may result in us reclaiming all support expenses.

Additional Requirements

  • Credit: You must include “Tokyo Convention & Visitors Bureau” in the credit sequence.
  • Data Sharing: We may share your personal information with third-party providers (accommodation, transportation, guide/coordinator services) solely for the purpose of facilitating our support services.
  • Terms & Conditions: Our terms and conditions may change without notice at TCVB’s discretion.
