A Warm Welcome, But Not in the Air

ANA flights have been a bit of a disappointment lately. The cabin temperature has been consistently uncomfortably warm, much warmer than I would expect. It’s centrally controlled, so there’s no way to adjust the temperature individually. And with no air flow to cool down, it feels like a sauna. I noticed others, even wearing sleeveless shirts, were also feeling the heat. In a packed airplane, it makes sense to keep things cool, not warm! People can layer up with sweaters or use blankets if they’re cold, but there’s no way to cool down when it’s hot. It’s worth noting that all three ANA flights I’ve been on recently have had this same issue.

A Routine Flight With Some Frustrating Twists

While the flight itself was pretty standard – long flights from Asia to the US are always a bit of a blur – the baggage claim process was quite chaotic. It seemed like I was running a marathon at Harry Reid Airport in Vegas trying to find my luggage. The airline’s notification about where to pick up bags was unclear and confusing. More precise communication would have been much appreciated.

Family Travel Gone Wrong

Traveling with family can be stressful, and this trip was no exception. The check-in process was a nightmare, with a wait time of over an hour! The agent at the counter just took our passports and disappeared for another hour. We were terrified of missing our flight and had to search for her. To add to the frustration, they separated my younger daughter from us on the plane, putting her in the back while we were in the middle. This created a lot of unnecessary anxiety. The airline should make a greater effort to accommodate families with young children.

Love Lost in the Air

My partner and I were looking forward to a relaxing holiday, but Vietnam Airlines had other plans for us. Despite booking together, they separated us on the flight, placing us at opposite ends of the plane. How can they separate people who are traveling together? They know we are a couple, and spending quality time together is important for us. It really put a damper on our holiday, and we are seriously considering avoiding this airline in the future.

Starlux Confusion

Our arrival in Taipei was met with more confusion. We couldn’t figure out how to get our boarding passes. Despite asking several people for help, we were ignored. Finally, a helpful gentleman suggested calling Starlux, but we didn’t know how to dial the number. Fortunately, a kind lady came to our rescue and helped us call customer service. Eventually, someone came and took us to a different counter to get our passes. The whole experience was very frustrating and left us feeling confused and disappointed. We may not choose Starlux for future travels.

A Delay-Ridden, Unresponsive Experience

Vietjet has become known for its delays, and this flight was no exception. We experienced a two-hour delay, which is becoming a regular occurrence with this airline. The aircrew were friendly enough, but their robotic demeanor left us feeling impersonal. When I asked for a spare seat at check-in, I was met with a canned response about load capacity, even though the flight was only 85% full! Then, passengers behind us took advantage of vacant exit rows, which they didn’t even pay for! To top it off, disembarking took over 20 minutes because the ground staff crammed all passengers onto one bus, causing further delays. This was not only unsafe but also incredibly frustrating. I have to say, this problem isn’t unique to Vietjet, it seems to be a common issue at Saigon airport. Overall, the experience was just average.

A Disappointing Budget Option

Vietjet is marketed as a budget airline, and it certainly reflects that in their service. We didn’t even get a complimentary bottle of water during the flight, which even Bamboo Airlines provides. It was also quite cold on board, and no blankets were provided. The flight attendants were unresponsive to passenger needs and did little to keep things under control. I had to complain several times about passengers playing loud music before one of the flight attendants finally took action. Sadly, I can’t recommend flying with Vietjet unless they make some significant improvements to their service.
